I finally made my choice =)

Courtney
Im 16, a junior in HS and I made the decision to get rid of my relaxer this month...After almost 9 years of having relaxers and watching my long mid-back length turn to shoulder length, thin and malnourished, I figured my hair was telling me something. So my dad and I made the decision  that I should go natural and so far I'm excited, but I realize that not having a woman in the house...my mom died a while ago, that I'm going to need as much advice as possible....so PLEASE :) help me or give me any tips you can...Currently im opting not to do the BC....b/c I think my father would die of shock and I already find my BSL hair short.....I would GREATLY appreciate any help :) thnx

you can transition with braids and cornrows. Search Youtube. I myself have found some great advice and how to videos.

roller sets are good also. it allows for little manipulation of the hair. i even do mine with no heat and on completely natural textured hair. best of luck to you!

Courtney, hoorah! Natural is better. First, get a transitioning style like cornrows with your own hair. I had a bad experience where synthetic hair took out my natural hair, but maybe synthetic will work for you. You can also do two strand twist, but you might want to go to a natural hair salon. Also, it's important to keep your hair moisturized, try natural hair products, or get some jojoba oil, 100% coconut oil, olive oil and mix equal parts and moisturize your ends before applying your shampoo, and after you apply your conditioner. I usally go to the health food store and get natural hair care products. I'll write again (as I'm typing from work and give you the name of an excellent natural shampoo/conditioner. I rinse my hair in Fiji water, that's the bottled store bought water, it comes from the rain forest, tap water can be harsh on hair, or by bottled water to rinse your hair. I've read a healthy scalp produces healthy hair, so I make sure my scalp stays clean. Don't neglect washing your hair weekly. I take 2000 milligrams of Biotin daily, if you do an internet study of biotin you'll see that hair cannot grow without it, and I've seen an improvement in my hair. In the winter do not wear hats or scarves that are wool, it will rub/pull your hair. Massage your scalp with small motions around your scalp. I do this my laying on my back allowing my head to drop a little off the bed, to get the blood flow to the scalp. I think it's very important to pamper, nourish, moisturize and be gentle to your hair. Soon you will be completly natural, cut about 1/8 inch a month, take your time, this doesn't have to be drastic process, and both you/your father will love the results.
