Trial and Error: Homemade Leave-In Condish

Posted by Sassy in Untagged

Sassy
So I've been doing a lot of research as of late. Looking for a natural remedy for my dry hair. I actually dreamt about it (which is where I get most of my confirmation LoL) and decided to try out the Kimmaytube leave-in conditioner. I plan to go get the ingredients tomorrow and try it out along with (hopefully) my new shampoo. My theory is that the combination of both products will give me much softer results than I've been getting. I've been following this particular youtube host for quite some time now, so I believe this will work out for my hair. Has anyone of you ladies tried her leave-in? If so, what were your results and would u recommend it for anyone else? I'll be back to give you guys a review. I HAVE MY FINGERS CROSSED :) Later lovelies

My Very First Twistout!!!!

Posted by Sassy in Untagged

Sassy

So I'm super excited about my twistout! It actually came out really, really well. I was a bit heavy handed with the products, so it's kinda greasy but not in a disgusting way or anything. Next time i'll try it with the SheaMoisture Curl Smoothie and Jane Carter Nourish and Shine instead of EcoStyler gel. But the combination of single two strand twists and two strand flat twists really worked out. When my hair gets longer, I'll be able to try the Naptural85 twistout method. But for now I'm just glad I found something that worked. It's been rough since my hair is now at this awkward length. It's too long for my usual wash and wear, and too short for a protective style. I needed something that would stretch it out to keep me from having so many fairy knots. Plus my texture is crazy. Some coils actually stand up while others roll back on themselves and cling to the scalp. Either way, I'm super excited to delve deeper into my twist explorations. Later lovelies :)

New Year, New Entry

OK so I know I have been absent for way too long. There is so much to update on. I am now four days away from the 5 month natural milestone!!! I'm still going strong. The winter threw me for a loop in the moisture department. So, I did a couple stints of yarn braids. Loved them but missed my curls even more so I ended up keeping them in less than a month each time. Lately, I have been trying to get my product usage down to a minimum. I currently use 2 different natural shampoos (a third one is being shipped soon and I'll be sure to give some feedback on it), 3 conditioners, and 3 styling aids. But I am proud to say that I have an actual regimen!!! Also, today was my first time being able to do a full head of 2 strand twists. Looking forward to the twistout for tomorrow (praying it won't be a huge FAIL). That about sum's it up lovelies. I hope you all have a blessed upcoming year and continue to love and rock your natural hair in all its variable glory.

I finally Big Chopped!!!!

Posted by Sassy in Untagged

Sassy

So the day goes down in my history that I big chopped Thursday, August 5, 2010!!!! It was really a spur of the moment thing. I dreamt about cutting it myself the night before, so I felt that was my confirmation. Got up the next morning and told my mom I was gonna go for it myself. She was not having it. She took me to the hairdresser! After asking my several times if I were sure, we walked in. I wasn't nervous about the cut because I feel that it's just hair and it can always grow back. As I watched the beautician do her thing, and everyone else in the shop stare, I couldn't help but smile. Man I wish I'd had my camera. I loved it immediately. It was shaved short and lined up. I touched it and it was super dry, but with all the research I'd done on various natural hair sites I was totally prepared for it. I rushed home to wash it and play in it. To this day I still can't stop touching it. Of course I got the usual mix of positive and negative feedback. But hey, I never cared what anyone thought of my hair before so I wouldn't start now. I love it and that's that!

Truly Free Experience

Posted by Sassy in Untagged

Sassy
Wow...so I went to the club for the first time since april and since my decision to go natural. It felt so amazing to just dance and not worry about sweating out my perm since I am a notorious head sweater. I admit I was nervous about how old friends would react to my new look, but it was well received. I was told I looked like a baby doll which is fitting because I always have looked much younger than I really am. I enjoyed the freeing experience a lot. This was the best hair decision I have ever made!!!

If I had known then what I know now...

This week, I tried a rollerset on perm rods. It didn't turn out bad at all...quite to my surprise. I made some normal mistakes but with practice I will, of course, get much better. Went product shopping with my mama. She's really more supportive of my natural decision than I initially thought...yay!!! We went and picked up a couple Carol's Daughter products that we had been hearing a lot about. Can't wait to try those out...on the way back home we discussed my hair's history. She told me a lot I didn't even know or remember about my hair prior to relaxing. Luckily, the information and products now will probably save a lot more children's hair from the creamy crack LOL.

Woo Hooo!!!

Hello there. I am new to this going natural journey. I have been permed for as long as I can remember. Hair was always something fun to experiment with. I've definitely gone through a lot of different and extreme styles. Lately I have been wanting somethin new and exciting so I decided to go natural. My last perm was April 19, 2010. I wanted to go ahead and BC but my mom said to wait until I had some more new growth. It's no big! I just need to learn proper cleaning and transition styling techniques. Wish me well on my road to natural :)
