I just joined the community and stumbled upon it while looking for ways to care for my natural hair and my kids hair. I have had a relaxer my entire adult life, but last year I made the decision to stop perming my hair. Braids literally hurt me, so not being a glutton for pain, I went the route of wrapping my hair and wearing a wig. I hadn't had a perm since maybe October, so Saturday nite, I told my fiance to just cut it.
My 10 year old drama queen walked around with the bag of cut hair repeating "all this pretty hair" over and over. But I feel so much better, although I do plan to grow it back out.
The majority, although not all, of the black women I know and one guy had the why did you do that reaction; I felt compelled to explain but soon relized that I owe no one an explanation for doing what makes me happy. But the few white co-workers that commented on it all told me it was so pretty and that I have the right face for that. What kind of message is that?
This is my first blog, I enjoyed the vent :-)
