I am finally at my two year point of my transition. I am planning to take and post some pics when I remove my cornrow extensions to wash my hair in preparation for rebraiding. I plan to get box/individual braids done and hope to wear this style about 2 to 3 months and later cornrow my natural hair and add extensions to the end of the natural cornrow for a little added length. So I am looking thru my bookshelf to find a good romance novel to read while I sit for hours to get my hair braided. I will try to post pics......

I love your box braid style and would love to try that style on my hair. I was thinking of getting them this past weekend so I asked my braider, who calls them individual braids if she would do it. I was told it would take a few hours to put them in, so I asked her to do my usual cornrow extensions that take about an hour to put in. I am a bit lazy and impatient when it comes to styling my hair :. So far I can only manage to wear my cornrow extensions a month at the most before removing them. I do plan to try the individual box braids one day (maybe)when I am in a patient mood and feel like sitting for more than a hour. :)

3 months is just right actually. My two friends did the same thing for 2 years and their hair really benefited. I, on the other hand, don't have the patience to stay past 2 months.

The maintenance varies depending on the type of hair you use. I have a weave/braids combination with human hair and for some crazy reason, I decided to wash it at home. BIG MISTAKE! Half of my braids came out and my sewn in weave is loose. I have to get someone to redo the braids and tighten the weave back up. Plus the hair stylist did a horrible job. My friends said that weave with human hair is not suppose to be washed; a leave in shampoo is better. I'm done ranting! LOL I hope that helped!

This is gonna be a long post but please stick with me. lol.

I pretty much want to keep my hair in box braids extensions like these for three months at a time with a one or two week break in between. I hope to do this for a year or so. Is that entirely too long? I had a friend who kept her extensions for 3-4 months at a time and her hair flourished!

I might switch it up once it I get bored of this but that is the general plan.

I want to use natural-textured hair to get a more natural look.... so when my hair fuzzes up it doesn't look out of place amongst kanekalon hair. My hair is too thin for such full-looking box braids style without extensions. I'd probably wear it curled like this most of the time too.

Is three months entirely too long? I've been able to maintain up to 2 months... maybe a wee bit longer in the past. The idea of only having to go to a salon 4 times for the year is very enticing.

If I do decide to go for the full period of 3 months, how should I maintain it?

I've gotten good suggestions on Fotki already but I really want to make sure I've covered all the bases.
